Our Philosophy
From the very beginning, Lee Weitzman Furniture’s goal has
been to create beautiful, well-made, long-lasting furniture. The
very nature of our high quality products counters the wasteful
consumer trend of "disposable" furniture. Our pieces are
handcrafted, so parts are carefully fit together to produce strong
joinery that holds up over time. Our upholstered seating is
created in such a way that it can easily be reupholstered in the
future. |

Materials
Wood is inherently one of the world’s most environmentally friendly resources as it is
renewable, recyclable, biodegradable, energy efficient, and non-toxic. Lee Weitzman
Furniture uses FSC certified hardwoods and veneers, and core materials with no added urea-formaldehyde resins. Using
veneer allows for a significantly better utilization of the forest’s raw materials by increasing
the yield of usable material by 50 times or more. Additionally we support the employment of any technology that allows for better yields from raw materials than is currently possible.
We purchase hardwood and veneers only from well-managed forests where timber growth
exceeds harvested trees.
Some of our design collections highlight the use of exotic veneers from around the world.
By creating a high value for these veneers, forests are saved from being indiscriminately
slashed and burned for agricultural use in 3rd world countries. Selective logging allows use
of the forest without losing it or risking its regenerative capacity. Sustainable forestry methods
actually extend the life of these forests, protecting the soil, water and biodiversity. Lee
Weitzman Furniture can also easily employ the use of locally harvested woods upon request.
For our upholstered seating, clients can specify the use of natural latex rubber foam, organic
cotton batting and hydra, a water-based foam adhesive. The customizability of our furniture
allows our customers to choose exactly which materials are used for their orders.
Finishes
Our finishes are based on high solids formulations, which rely on catalyzed curing methods
rather than solvent evaporation. This means that far fewer V.O.C.s (volatile organic
compounds) are emitted into the atmosphere in the form of lacquer thinners and other
solvents.
We are researching recent improvements in water-based finishes, but as of yet, the quality of
the appearance has not met our standards. We anticipate offering these finishes in the near
future.
LEED Certification
Lee Weitzman Furniture can provide documentation of LEED compliance upon request.
Upcharges or longer lead times may apply depending on the final specifications, so please
contact our office for more details.
