FUNCTIONAL SCULPTURE FROM LEE WEITZMAN FURNITURE:
THE MANTIS COFFEE TABLE
A new coffee table design, simple yet dynamic, has emerged from the design studios of Lee Weitzman Furniture. The table’s name refers to the general shape of the solid wood base, which vaguely recalls the articulation of the insect’s legs. A clear glass top generously allows the sculptural forms to be viewed unobstructed.
Shown here in espresso mahogany, the table base is available in five standard wood finishes. The standard 54" x 42" x 18"h size is also customizable. A forthcoming design for a complementary side table is currently underway.

Lee Weitzman Furniture Showroom Announces New “Green” Options
With the celebration of our Huron Street showroom’s one-year anniversary comes many positive improvements for Lee Weitzman Furniture. Most importantly, we are very excited to introduce a “Green Statement” to our website. We truly believe in these principles and try to apply them to every project we undertake.
Lee Weitzman Furniture has recognized clients’ demands for products and materials that are more eco-friendly. We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to create more environmentally sound products that still reflect our mission of quality, strength and beauty. In order to give the consumer greater choice, we are proud to introduce a line of Green Veneers , all of which are pressed onto a no-added formaldehyde core. Clients can select from a variety of natural and engineered solid woods and veneers that reduce the impact on the environment. These options allow our clients to incorporate sustainable materials without sacrificing the beautifully and highly figured wood patterns for which Lee Weitzman Furniture is renowned.
Of our existing list of standard woods, several are available with FSC certification. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. Our FSC-certified woods include Maple, Curly Maple, Birdseye Maple, Mahogany and Ribbon Sapeli. All Maple species are domestically harvested, further reducing environmental impact.
An exciting new option is available in the use of engineered veneer, available in Wenge, Macassar Ebony, Zebrawood and Quartered Oak. By utilizing reconstituted veneers from managed forests, we are not deforesting these wood species in their native environments.
Bamboo, while actually not from a tree at all, but from a family of grasses, is incredibly fast-growing and versatile. We can use both solid and veneer forms of bamboo in our furniture.
We are currently working on creating our first 100% sustainable console table made from bamboo and lyptus, a premium hardwood (Eucalyptus) from sustainably managed forests. Look for the finished product in the near future at our Huron street showroom or at Area International, the new showroom at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart representing our line exclusively to the trade.

Lee Weitzman Furniture Winner of ASID Design Excellence Award 2008
Originally designed to suit a dramatic entrance-way featuring a stunning sculptural curving staircase, the Alexandria Bench evolved into a sophisticated piece that stands beautifully on its own. The sleek curves of the ribbon sapeli frame and upholstered cushion create a modern refinement of classical forms. We imagine Cleopatra, of the ancient Egyptian city of Alexandria, gracefully reclining here…
